It is a sacred oil that was (and still is) used as a key ingredient in incense and spiritual pursuits because of its grounding and relaxing qualities. It also helps with depression, stress and tension. It is used for acne and dry skin and also inflammation. Its expectorant qualities help with dry cough, colds and throat infections. Blends well with blood orange, clementine, tangerine, lemon, lime, yuzu, clary sage, lavender, rosewood,  cedar, Peru balsam, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, vanilla, cardamom, cocoa bean, coffee, jasmine, ylang ylang , petitgrain sur fleur, and all florals and floral absolutes. NOTE: the most recent cropwatch reports say it is still endangered, that is from 2009. You can still get the true Indian sandalwood santalum album, but it is very pricey and it is most certainly endangered. The new sandalwoods are the market are santalum spicatum and santalum austrocaledonicium, both from New Caledonia region in Australia. The richness and depth of the album variety is missing, however, most of the ones from that region are ethically harvested.
