BLOOD ORANGE (citrus aurantium var. amara)

Bitter orange is the common name used for blood orange, even though some confusion exists as to its true botanical name. Grown primarily in Israel and Italy (for extraction purposes) is has a soothing warm clean scent that also has heady floral undertones. It has been compared to baby aspirin and tang and is a richer version of tangerine, but not quite as warm as mandarin. It is a wonderful enchanting top note that adds character to any blend and to smooth out any rough edges. It is a top note that can exist on its own or blended with almost any other fragrance category. It is similar to other citrus in its detoxifying qualities and also for its cheering effect on emotions. Excellent for grief, depression and said to be good on cellulite. Contra Indications: Can be photo sensitive and possibly a skin irritant.
