Cardamom - India (CO2 Organic)
Description
CARDAMOM (elletaria cardamomum)
Cardamon has been used in Asia and India for 1000's of years as a cooking spice, for use in cosmetics (for ayurvedic medicine) and as a remedy for digestive complaints such as constipation, flatulence, cramps, indigestion, vomiting, heartburn and bad breath. Traditionally in India it is used with a piece of candied ginger with a small cardamom seed placed on top, as a type of digestive tonic after meals. The ruling planet of cardamom is Venus, goddess of love and sex. It has a warm rich scent which makes it a perfect addition for sensual blends, which is appropriate due to its legendary qualities of arousing sexual desire. It is used widely in Scandinavia in cooking and liqueurs, but also for the warming properties to help them get through the long winters! Throughout Asia and the Middle East it is still used to flavor coffee and used widely in cooking. It was reputed to be used as a digestive aid even by the early Greeks and Romans. It was first distilled by Valerius Cordus when a Portugese explorer found the seeds on the Indian coast. It is still indigenous to India, Ceylon and China. Cardamom is also a good calmative and anti-spasmodic.
