HELICHRYSUM  (helichrysum splendium)

From the Asteraceae family, also known as Immortelle or ltalian everlasting. It has been used for centuries in the Mediterranean as a "strewing" herb a pleasant mixture of sacred herbs or other plant material that brings in only good spirits and help deter bugs. It is simmered with water to produce a pleasant aroma. Even though there are over 500 varieties of this herb, only a few actually yield an essential oil. This little beauty comes from our co-op in South Africa and is a less costly variety but just as effective. It has been described in many ways as a honey-floral with coffee or tea undertones and all combinations of the above. It is one of the best anti-coagulants and anti-inflammatory essential oils that there is, and quite possibly the best scar oil around. It can be put on a cut to help heal after the cut has closed up. This can be mixed with some sort of healing cream or oil, such as calendula, aloe vera, carrot seed or rose hip seed oil. It is also a cicatrizant, helps promote healing by forming scar tissue for skin care. For skin care it is good for mature skin, acne, allergies, boils, bums, wounds, eczema and dermatitis. Also good for bacterial infections, colds, flu and fevers. Blends well with elemi, lavender, carrot, sandalwood, citrus, tobacco, coffee bean, cocoa bean, frankincense, galbanum, rosewood, cedar wood.
